Poetry & Simple Devotion #1

From out the forest I now appear,

To proclaim that Christmastide is here!

For at the top of every tree
Are golden lights for all to see;

And there from Heaven’s gate on high
I saw our Christ-child in the sky.  - Theodor Storm

White Glitter Parisian Townhouse

Let it snow …

 Let it snow...

Let it snow...

Back before things got crazy busy Miss Izzy had a great idea. "Let's make a glitter house with some old world Parisian townhouse flair!"

She graciously donated a Fancy Feast box for the project.

And kept me company during the tedious parts.
Like making the roof from the pieces of cardboard that came with in the Fancy Feast box

And designing the dormers.

The dormers can be trimmed to fit a curved roof .

He Who Builds Things got involved ...

Here is a closer look at the dormer .

The windows are from the definitive Putz house  / glitter house site Cardboard Christmas . Thank you Paul & Howard!
Side view. I used white cardstock to cover the house and silver pipe cleaners as trim.
The base is a Styrofoam square from the  Dollar Tree. The icicles are from a template I found on the web at cotton pickin' fun.  Glitter and some white bottle brush trees for glitz.

This  one horse open sleigh felt like the perfect touch.

Son of Inspired By

The adage 'Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans'  has been VERY TRUE this month.

I wish the Three Little Kittens were as helpful as this perky poodle.

Pink Sparkly castle and dyed to match reindeer? Mrs. Claus must be a crafter.

The pretty sleigh on this card would have made a wonderful addition to Betsy Mc Calls' Christmas.

My grandmothers stories of making paper dolls from catalog pictures inspired many homemade paper doll settings.   The fireplace scene below would have inspired a Christmas diorama.

Vintage Betsy McCall paper doll  images brings to mind the taste of white paste and the scent of mimeographed worksheets. I am remembering how frustrating those children's dull metal  scissors were for a left hander. My mom was wise to hide her sharp sewing scissors.

Happy Pink Saturday!

End table Upcycle

He Who Builds Things took an old end table and turned it into a snug nest for the Raggedy Tiger Cat.  It is the right height off the ground, not to big or small.

The big white thing is part of a rocket. Multi-tasking!

A sheet of insolation  was cut to size and glued into place then  sealed on the outside with calk.
Some plywood for the sides. Two coats of Killz  outdoor primer.  The front panel has an opening just big enough for a large cat and is screwed on - nice tight fit to resist drafts but removable for cleaning.

We filled it with hay and placed it behind the garden house, but facing it to help block drafts. It is a spot that gets lots of sun.  We are going to add a  flap to keep out the rain . For now a flannel backed tablecloth and plastic under bed storage box is a make shift over hang and curtain .
The rose bush helps give a feeling of  seclusion and safety . His fur is looking  shinier  every day. He knows the screech of the back door opening. The 'Tink! Tink!'  of a spoon against the side of  a can.  We love to see him slide out from behind the garden house, give a big stretch, whiskers  lifted to the sun then trot up the garden path, knowing breakfast is served.

The Raggedy Tiger Cat is not so Raggedy these days.    He patrols the yard,- his territory now, will rub against my leg ,makes good eye contact, and exchanges  kitty blinks - cat speak for  'thanks for the eats Food Lady'.

The haunted, hunted look is gone.

I may not be able to save them all but sometimes I can save one.  Maybe the Raggedy Tiger Cat has adopted my philosophy. He has been letting this older male into his territory and sharing his food. Time to refresh the hay in the box under the patio table.
